BADSEY DEATH OF MR T PERKINS

His many friends will learn with regret of the death of Mr Tom Perkins, of No 15, Synehurst, Badsey, which took place at his home in the early hours of Saturday morning. Mr Perkins, who was 67 years of age, had been in ill-health for only a short time, and was confined to his bed for a period of only three weeks. The youngest son of the late Mr & Mrs Frederick Perkins, of Cotswold View, Badsey, he was born in the village and resided there all his life. He was the sole survivor of the family. On leaving school he was first engaged in the market gardening industry, but at the age of 24 he took up employment with the late Mr Horace Wheatley, butcher, of Badsey, and he continued in the butchery trade first for Mr Wheatley and on the latter's death for Mrs Wheatley until his illness commenced soon after Christmas. In his trade as a butcher he came into contact with a large number of people in the district and made numerous friends, all of whom held him in high esteem.

Of a cheerful and willing disposition, he had a kind word for all whom he met. For several years he was a bellringer at St James’ Church, Badsey. In his younger days he was a keen footballer and played for the old Badsey Star eleven, and in later years he took a keen interest in the activities of the Badsey Rangers team, being an ardent and regular supporter of the team until his illness. He is survived by his widow, four sons and one daughter, with whom we express our sympathy in their loss.

The funeral took place at Badsey on Tuesday, a choral service in St James's Church preceding the interment in St James's churchyard. The service was conducted by the Vicar, Rev W B Chapman, the hymns "Abide with me" and "Jesu, lover of my soul" being sung. Mrs G  Marshall presided at the organ.

The family mourners were Mrs T Perkins (widow), Messrs Fred Perkins, Francis Perkins. Dick Perkins and Horace Perkins (sons), Mrs R Rouse (daughter), Mrs Fred Perkins. Mrs Francis Perkins. Mrs Dick Perkins, Mrs Horace Perkins (daughters-in- law), Mr R Rouse (son-in-law), Mr Jack Perkins, Mr Jim Perkins (nephews). Mr & Mrs O. Morgan (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr J Mumford (brother-in-law) and Mr Lee Bennett (friend). Among a large congregation present at the church were Mrs L K Wheatley, Messrs W Wheatley, E Wheatley, F Wheatley, C Wheatley, J Wheatley, Mrs A Wheatley, Mrs F Wheatley, Mrs E Wheatley, Mr & Mrs O Harwood, Mrs R Butler, Mrs F C Savage, Mr & Mrs Will Geden. Following the interment numerous beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends were placed on the grave.
